people were shot to death in the 800 block of mead avenue in west oakland. then at about 2:30, one person was killed in a stabbing on walnut street in the seminary area of oakland. police are investigating the possibility that the killings are related. >>> the chp pulled a bmw over for speeding in oakland last night but when officers walked toward the car the driver took off. a minute later crashed into a lincoln continental at the 98th avenue on-ramp to i-580. someone in the back seat of the lincoln was killed. the bmw's driver was caught shortly after taking off. >>> a shooting now under investigation at an east bay bart station. the 18-year-old victim is expected to recover. he was shot in the parking lot at the pittsburg-bay point station just before 7:00 last night. at this time, they don't have any suspects. the shooting and investigation caused some major delays though for bart riders. >>> gunfire from police hit the suspect at an el cerrito gas station. it happened last night just after 6:30. police say they came across a man pistol whipping a woman at a chevron station at

afternoon in oakland. it was one the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city with hundreds of people dropping off their firearms. for each gun turned in, the owner received $200, no questions asked. the oakland police say that this was one of the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city. several hundreds of guns were turned in and many still moved by friday shooting in newtown, connecticut. >> the s f p d received a call around 3:00 a.m. this morning for reports of a home invasion robbery. this incident occurred on the 1600 block of slow boulevard. three suspects into the home and tied up the family robbing them of many belongings. the victims were not injured-that's it is unclear how many fell members live in the home and it is not clear their ages. the three suspects are being described as black male adults that were wearing masks. the s f p d is asking the public for help if they haven't any information that may be useful. >> >> it is 7:15 a.m.. let's talk about the weather. we do have wet weather outside. the rain is coming down. here is

this morning up the nimitz freeway through oakland. plus just getting word of what sounds like a pretty bad accident in daly city. we'll have details coming up. >>> good morning, everyone. it's tuesday, december 11. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. 5:01. we are on the scene of breaking news in the east bay at an apartment fire that started about an hour ago. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in hayward getting the latest. >> reporter: that apartment completely destroyed and there was a mother who lived there with her young son. she told us that she thinks somebody threw something into her home and that's what caused it to set on fire. so arson investigators are on scene. they are trying to sort all of this out but we are on dixon street right by the bart station. this was a one-alarm fire but again it caused significant damage and firefighters say that that family won't be able to return home. nobody was hurt. pg&e crews also on scene securing some lines and we are still waiting to get some more information but as i said arson investigators are on scene. elissa h
. there are no major problems driving on 680 as you drive nearby between walnut creek and oakland. northbound 101 san francisco that traffic looks good. let's go back to the desk. >>> time now 6:01. repair crews and other crews are still at the scene of that big machine shop fire that happened yesterday. lorraine blanco is at cnh enterprises right now. firefighters are looking out for flairups out there. >> reporter: they are babysitting the smoke this morning. it's smoldering in the center of the building. that's what we are told this morning. you can see what is left is a gutted charred mess. these are the offices in the front of the building. management says they are working furiously to open a new location. it started in the warm springs company around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. the flames and smoke were so heavy and the chemicals inside the machine shop were so combustible firefighters had to battle it from the outside. all 80 or so employees got out safely but the building was destroyed. >> when you stop and think about something like this, it's like you know my personally my problems are trivia
a few hours later. >>> a ten thousand dollar reward is being offered in oakland's latest homicide. police say that someone shot and killed a man on 83rd avenue and d street yesterday afternoon. the victim a 49-year-old man from contra coasta died at the scene. nobody has been argumented and the motive is still under investigation. this is oakland's 122nd homicide compared to 105 at the same time last year. >>> we are learning more about young man shot and killed in a quiet san jose neighborhood earlier this week. he has been identified as 18- year-old john cody. his body was found on fair haven drive tuesday near a pickup truck that was up on the sidewalk. emergency crews first thought his injuries were from the crash but later determined that he had been shot. police say there is no evidence that the killing is gang related. >> police in oakland and in san francisco, they are teaming up in an effort to get guns off the streets. a gun buy back program will be held tomorrow from ten to three for oakland and san francisco residents only. in oakland the guns can be dropped off at sa

now for a murderer after a 15-year-old girl was shot to death at an east oakland housing complex around 3:40 yesterday afternoon at 66th avenue and lion way. police say it appears the victim was walking with a group of people when a lone gunman approached them and opened fire. a 14-year-old boy was shot and his injuries are not life- threatening. witnesses say the shooter appeared to be between the angles of 13 and 16. -- between the ages of 13 and 16 bringing oakland's homicide number to 160 this year, 20% more than last year. san francisco has a third increase over 2011. san jose's 45 is relatively low for a city of its size up 12.5% from last year. >>> the numbers of drunk driving arrests and of fatal accidents are down this holiday weekend compared to last year. the chp reports on the first two days of the new year's weekend. the chp made 723 drunk driving arrests since friday night across the state, more than 200 fewer than last year. accidents killed nine people in california down from 12 in the sam period a year ago. local transit agencies are offering an alternative to dr
